SESSION 1 (June 24 – July 12): SUPERHEROES!

SUPERHEROES!

Batman Spiderman, Aquaman, and many other superheroes were inspired by nature’s mystifying creatures. Who will you be? We will take lessons from nature as you create your own superhero with powers that mimic those from amazing creatures. Did you know that suction cups were originally inspired from octopus tentacles, and Velcro was designed by replicating burs? These useful traits from nature might be your superhero’s power!

SESSION 2 (July 15 – August 2): INNOVATIVE DESIGN FROM NATURE

Some of the most interesting buildings (like the Bird’s Nest in China) were inspired by nature’s architecture. Honeycombs have inspired the Geodesic Domes, and other designs came from our natural world.  Let’s see what we can design as we take a close look at this kind of architecture. What about wearables and robotics. Did you know the Olympic swimsuits were inspired by shark skin?

SESSION 3 (August 5-16): SURVIVAL OF THE NATURALIST

Nature has provided a lot of wild things for us to use as we explore outdoors. Join us as we try our hand at outdoor cooking, designing survival gear to protect us from the elements, and learn about camouflage as the real wild things do.

SPECIAL CLASSES: Mad Science, Photography, & Scratch/Coding

Every Friday there is a Field Trip scheduled: Liberty Science Center, Newark Museum, *Turtle Back Zoo, *LEGOLAND, Liberty State Park Interpretive Center, Hudson Play.
