This week, students of every age at our school celebrated International Peace Day, which was established by the United Nations to promote world peace. Younger students made peace jars, talked about peaceful behavior in the classroom, and read books based on peace and caring for others in our communities. Older students discussed how we all can support peace at school, home, and beyond.
Dr. Maria Montessori's teaching philosophy laid the groundwork for something far beyond academic success: She wanted it to impact all of humanity. Montessori Peace Education in our classrooms remains crucial to that goal.
Peace Education is a core subject in our school's curriculum from toddlers to eighth graders. Each September, our students from all grade levels start the school year by setting the tone for our yearlong study of self-reflection, conflict resolution, and problem-solving.
