Session 1 Highlights From Hudson Montessori Summer Camp and Launch Into Session 2

Our campers are diving into summer fun at Hudson Montessori School's Summer Camp! Our days are packed with excitement for campers from toddlers to elementary-age. Each week brings a new theme, from ocean adventures to exploring the earth's elements. We recently concluded our three-week session 1, and this week launched into session 2 for the next three weeks.

Elementary Camp: Physics in Action

Session 1 featured “Physics in Action: Forces and Motion” for Elementary campers. Our campers spent the session creating Science Journals to document their lessons and the engineering design process: ask, plan, imagine, create, and improve ideas.

Each week focuses on Newton's Three Laws of Motion, starting with the First Law and activities demonstrating gravitational and magnetic forces. Weeks two and three covered acceleration and mass (Newton's Second Law) and action-reaction pairs (Newton's Third Law), using experiments with Newton's cradle, balloons, and static electricity.

Campers also learned coding with Ozobots and engaged in maker projects like magnetic mazes, Olympic-inspired magnets, and an Ozobot city. We took field trips to Battery Park City, the National Museum of the American Indian, Liberty Science Center and spent a day exploring the Hudson River. Our campers enjoyed enrichment specials like swimming, playing musical instruments in band, Spanish, chess, art, yoga, nature walks, and learning presentation skills in public speaking during our Maker Mondays.

Toddlers and Preschool Camp: Discovering Our World

Our younger campers spent the first session with fun-filled, themed camp days for our Toddler-Bridge Primary and Primary students. Our toddlers, preschoolers, and kindergarteners looked closer at water and land. Toddlers (2s) explored the ocean and its creatures while our preschoolers and kindergarteners (3s, 4s, and 5s) studied the history of dinosaurs, rocks, minerals, and fossils.

Each class played water-themed games and held experiments to learn about buoyancy, the water cycle, and absorbency. The children also played with water outdoors at the school's playground, practiced morning yoga and music, and brushed up on their Spanish.

We kicked off Session 2 with brand-new themes and exciting activities this week. Over the next three weeks, our Toddler-Bridge campers will learn about the many types of transportation people use around the globe. The primary camp will transition from studying land to studying water and sharks. They will focus on the many different land environments and animals. Elementary campers have begun their study of matter, light, and sound.

All age groups will splash around with water play—elementary campers swim in our rooftop pool while the little ones enjoy our water sprinklers. Plus, every camper gets a taste of the Montessori philosophy.

A few spots are still available for Session 3. Toddler and primary campers have half-day, full-day, and extended-day options, while all elementary campers have full-day camp.
