Language, cognitive, and social-emotional skills explode for 2 year olds which is a critical developmental period. Fostering this growth is essential to set up our youngest students for a lifelong love of learning. Academic development at this age - “how we learn”, lays the foundation for future learning and overall growth.
Engaging in age-appropriate educational activities helps toddlers develop critical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and more. Early exposure to concepts like numbers, letters, and colors helps feed a child's natural curiosity and confidence, giving children the tools to transition smoothly into preschool and beyond.
Our Staff: Experts in Montessori
Our teachers and staff have been key to the success story of the Hudson Montessori School since the school started 15 years ago. Together, they have over 250 years of combined teaching experience! Many of our staff carry decades of Montessori education experience that they bring into the lives of students and families each year.
The Montessori curriculum is intentional through the materials students use each day. While all students benefit from these classic materials, our teachers are able to infuse our curriculum with new, supportive lessons and materials they create that incorporate Montessori methods of learning while also following the children and their interests.
This mix of classic materials and lessons with customized activities to support each child’s development is one of the things that makes our Toddler Program well-rounded and a great success.
The Montessori Curriculum: Tailored to Your Student
The Montessori curriculum is uniquely designed to support toddlers by allowing them to express their independence, creativity, and natural drive to discover. In a Montessori environment, teachers demonstrate hands-on, self-directed activities that cater to a child’s developmental needs and individual interests.
This holistic approach allows children to explore and learn at their own pace and offers a sense of autonomy. All of this is done with the essential roles of a classroom community in mind, showing students how to form strong social bonds, consider their peers, and care for the collective. Engaging with ideas and materials through a discovery approach gives children confidence that they can control what they are doing.
Montessori materials are carefully crafted to encourage sensory exploration, fine motor skills, and cognitive development, all within a structured yet flexible framework. The curriculum emphasizes social interaction and emotional growth as toddlers learn to collaborate, share, and respect others in a nurturing setting.
The Montessori in a Minute Series
The Montessori In A Minute series regularly explores the unique benefits of Montessori philosophy, its fundamental materials, and areas of the classroom. For all parents at Hudson Montessori School (Jersey City, New Jersey), the school hosts Parent Education Nights every year to teach parents about the Montessori method and how the students learn curriculum components using a Montessori framework.
