Lower Elementary Students Dazzle Parents at Annual Reader’s Theatre Showcase

Thank you to the parents and families who joined us for our annual Lower Elementary Presents showcase just before winter break. Each of our three Lower Elementary classes held engaging showcases as part of their Reader's Theatre curriculum. These performances help students develop their reading skills and build confidence by giving them a purposeful way to practice fluency and reading aloud with expression.

Families served as the audience as the students performed speaking parts and musical performances together based on the school’s schoolwide theme, “Innovation.” One class focused on innovations in energy, the second on innovations in light, and the third on sound, with "The Timeline of Western Music" taking the audience on a journey from ancient Greek music to hip-hop.

Reader's Theater is a dynamic and engaging program that strengthens a child’s appreciation for reading, confidence, and collaboration in our students each year. Each presentation offers an exciting introduction to public speaking in a supportive environment, surrounded by classmates and families. The benefits:

  • Fluency and expression: By bringing scripts to life, students enhance their reading fluency, develop expressive reading skills, and improve comprehension.

  • Listening and speaking skills: It strengthens communication skills as children practice reading aloud with emotion and clarity.

  • Teamwork and creativity: Students work together to tell stories, share ideas, and take on roles encouraging teamwork and imaginative thinking.

  • Confidence building: This supportive environment allows students to shine on stage, boosting their self-confidence and inspiring a love for performing.

Events like this classroom showcase, the Montessori Model United Nations, and the annual Social Studies Fair foster the confidence students need to share their ideas with the broader community.
