At a recent event in Liberty State Park, the Hudson Montessori STEAM team and our Middle School Eco Club demonstrated to Jersey City how to check the health of the Hudson River, one of the most recognizable waterways on Earth. Hudson Montessori School has special state permits to operate science monitoring stations along the Hudson River. Our students and teachers demonstrated how to make and pull up eel mops, measure Hudson River water parameters, and why the American glass eel matters to the Hudson River waterway for World Fish Migration Day 2024. Although eels weren’t found in the retrieved eel mops, they were full of much life—crabs, shrimp, barnacles, and other organisms—still a very positive sign!
