Our students celebrate Pi Day on March 14 with games, costumes, and eating pie each year! This year, our school honored famous scientists Archimedes and Grace Hopper, pioneers in hydrology and computer science. Students in several grade levels dress up as scientists and are judged on their costume's resemblance, creativity and ingenuity, and understanding of the scientist's life and work. Some children also participated in our annual Pi Day recitation contest to see which student can remember the most digits of Pi.
Montessori philosophy teaches that children have a "mathematical mind," with sensitive periods of mathematical development at different ages. Hudson Montessori School understands that many of the questions children have about the world are answered through mathematics. By providing a firm foundation of quality instruction and infusing fun into lessons through celebrations like these, we aim to create life-long learners with a love of mathematics. Our Pi day celebration is just one way we make mathematics engaging and exciting for our students.
