Hudson Montessori Staff 2016-2017
Ms. Jolly has her Montessori teaching credential for Early Childhood from American Montessori Society (AMS). She has been teaching in Jersey City schools for over 15 years and is certified in New Jersey to teach kindergarten through eighth grade. Ms. Jolly holds an MBA in Finance and a Master’s in Accounting.
Ms. Gina joined Hudson Montessori in November 2015 after heading three Montessori schools in Delaware, Ohio and New York over the past 23 years. She is a Master of Instruction, Curriculum Design for Young Children, and earned her Bachelor’s in Education. She has over 35 years of experience working with schools. Ms. Gina believes in nurturing strong school communities and will be instrumental in guiding our school’s growth in coming years.
Ms. Susan has a Master of Education and Montessori certification from Association Montessori Internationale (AMI) for Early Childhood and Elementary. Ms. Susan holds the New Jersey alternate route certification for K-5. She has over 35 years of experience in teaching 2½ to 10 year olds in Montessori schools. She recently completed a course, the Texas Primary Reading Inventory (TPRI), to train teachers in reading screening/assessment. Ms. Susan will begin her seventh year with the school.
Ms. Fumi has been with Hudson Montessori since the school started in 2009. She has her Montessori certification for Infant to Toddler from the American Montessori Society. Ms. Fumi is our lead teacher for the Rosy Red Toddler classroom and has been the Head of the Toddler program for the last four years. Ms. Fumi holds degrees in English Linguistics and Japanese as a Second Language. She taught Japanese in Germany for four years.
Ms. Melissa L. graduated William Paterson University in 2015 with a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature. This will be Ms. Melissa’s second year at Hudson Montessori. She is also pursuing her Infant/Toddler Certification at the Princeton Center for Teacher Education. She will be leading the second toddler class and also be working as the school librarian. Ms. Melissa is bilingual in English and Spanish and is currently learning her third language, Brazilian Portuguese.
Ms. Anjelica is working towards her Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education. She has worked at the University Settlement House in New York City as an Art Specialist and Assistant Group Leader. Ms. Anjelica worked at the International School in Abu Dhabi, UAE, teaching English and Math to Kindergarten students, and then at Stepping Stones Montessori as a Kindergarten teacher. We are delighted to have Ms. Anjelica as a teacher in Rosy Red.
Ms. Claudia has been helping educate young children for over four years with a preschool in Bayonne, NJ as a Teacher Assistant. She graduated from Bayonne High School in 2014 and attended Hudson County Community
College soon after, completing her pre-requisite courses for a career in nursing. Ms. Claudia is pursuing a career in the United States Air Force. She is excited to be part of Hudson Montessori School for this school year.
Ms. Danielle G. is currently pursuing her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Minor in Theater at York College. She previously worked as a Teacher’s Assistant at Twin Parks Montessori School in New York City for four years, working with children from ages 6 months to 5 years. This is her second year with Hudson Montessori and she will be a Teacher’s Assistant in the Toddler Program
Bridge Primary Program
Ms. Sarah holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Southwestern University and has her Montessori certification in both Primary (AMI) and Infant Toddler (AMS). She has been a lead teacher for more than 12 years, working with children from the ages of 18 months to 6 years. She is an active volunteer with HOPE worldwide, contributing time to disaster relief efforts and coordinating service projects.
Ms. Cheyla is a graduate of New Jersey City University earning her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology. She has over six years of teaching experience working with young children ranging from the age of 2 months to 6 years. Ms. Cheyla is fluent in Spanish and has a passion for teaching creatively through arts and technology.
Ms. Sara is currently pursuing her Bachelor’s degree in Biology at New Jersey City University. She previously worked for St. Abanoub and St. Anthony Church of Bayonne as a Sunday School Teacher’s Assistant. She has been a Summer Camp Counselor and worked with people learning to speak English. She has also provided support to students with disabilities.
Ms. Denise graduated Summa Cum Laude from Caldwell University with a B.A. in Psychology. She obtained her International Montessori Teaching Diploma, Preschool/Kindergarten programs, from the North American Montessori Center. She is a loving, caring and passionate Montessori directress with more than 16 years of experience working with children and families, out of which 12 years have been in a Montessori environment. In addition to teaching in both traditional and Montessori environments, she created a Spanish Program for young children which was incorporated in schools where she worked.
Ms. Johanna earned a Bachelor in Modern Languages, with Spanish, English and German specialization from Baruch College. She has completed her certification in advance graduate studies in teaching methodologies and the AMS Montessori training for ages 3 to 6. Ms. Johanna holds a Master’s degree in psychology from NYU. She has eight years of hands-on teaching and management experience in schools and universities in New York City. She has been a Montessori Primary teacher for five years.
Ms. Nancy holds an undergraduate degree in Business Administration and is a few credits short of her Master’s in Early Childhood Education. Ms. Nancy received her Montessori Certification (AMS) in Early Childhood from
Princeton Center for Teacher Education (PCTE). She has been teaching in Montessori schools for the past nine years and prior to that worked for AT&T in Organizational Management (Process and Quality). She has two grown children and a thirteen year old grandchild who has been in a Montessori school since she was four years old.
Ms. Nazia earned her Bachelor’s degree in English and has her Montessori Primary (ages 2 1/2 to 6) and Elementary (ages 6 to 12) teacher certificate from Association Montessori Internationale (AMI). She has over 13 years of experience working as a Montessori teacher in both the Primary and Lower Elementary levels. Ms. Nazia has also worked with special needs children.
Ms. Shoni holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Monroe College and earned her Montessori Education diploma in London. She has taught in three countries and has seven years of experience working in a Montessori environment. Originally from Barbados, Ms. Shoni enjoys working with the Primary children who are emerging in their skills. She also develops a number of materials which she likes using with her students.
Ms. Tia has her Montessori certification (AMS) for Early Childhood from Princeton Center for Teacher Education. She holds a Master’s degree in Psychology, Clinical Behavioral Applications, from Queens College, New York. She previously worked at the Scandinavian School of Jersey City, which uses the Reggio Emilia approach to education. Ms. Tia is trained in Applied Behavior Analysis, the scientifically proven method most beneficial in educating children with developmental disorders, mainly autism. Ms. Tia is conversational in French, and fluent in Finnish and Swedish.
Ms. Alia has her Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Early Childhood Education from New Jersey City University. Ms. Alia started working with Hudson Montessori in our Summer Program and is returning to Hudson Montessori for her fifth school year. Ms. Alia also works as a teacher in our Summer Camp and in the aftercare program.
Ms. Adinah graduated cum laude from Stony Brook University with a BA in Political Science and Public Policy. She was the social media director during a political campaign as an intern with a Philippine-American organization. Ms. Adinah is also a singer who has taught voice lessons to children in New York City. Ms. Adinah led the Elementary Summer Camp Program this year.
Ms. Caridad graduated from Rutgers University with a BA in English Literature, and minors in Italian Literature and Human Resources Management. She studied abroad in Italy for a year. Her passion for the field of education brought her to Hudson Montessori, where she will be starting her third year as an assistant teacher.
Ms. Christine is a Bachelor of Arts in Music from William Paterson University, where she was also the recipient of the Trustee Scholarship. She plays guitar, piano, keyboard, drums and ukulele, and has performed at Carnegie Hall and the Philippine Consulate in New York City. Besides working as an assistant teacher in the primary classroom, she will also be teaching music to our children. Ms. Christine worked as Students Ambassador at her college and also as a Camp Counselor where she arranged activities for campers and implemented camp safety regulations.
Ms. Mahrukh is a graduate of McNair Academic High School and is currently studying Psychology and Children Development at Rutgers University. She hopes to become a school counselor and believes that working in a Montessori school will help her become well-rounded in an educational environment. Ms. Mahrukh worked in our aftercare/extended-care programs, continued as a teacher in our Summer Camp and is returning in her third year as a full time assistant teacher.
Ms. Mariana graduated from the University of Florida with a Bachelor’s degree in Criminology. She realized that her true passion was working with children and soon earned her Early Childhood certification (AMS) from Maitland Montessori in Orlando, Florida. Ms. Mariana has been working with children for nine years and has been in a Montessori classroom for one year. She has also worked with special needs children.
Ms. Mariah graduated with her Bachelor’s degree from New Jersey City University. She has also studied abroad in England, France and Greece. Ms. Mariah continues to work towards a Secondary Education certificate at NJCU. She has worked with children in preschool, middle school and high school. Ms. Mariah previously worked at Stevens Cooperative in Jersey City and has also substituted in elementary and middle schools in Hudson County. This is her first year with Hudson Montessori and she is more than excited to begin the journey.
Ms. Melissa P. is working towards her Bachelor’s degree in Child and Family Services. She has eight years of experience working in Montessori schools. Ms. Melissa worked as an Assistant Teacher in both Toddler and Primary classrooms at Lakes Hills Montessori in Tulsa, Oklahoma and as an Assistant Director at King Arthur Montessori in Carrollton, Texas.
Ms. Nivedita holds a Master’s degree in Economics from the University of Mumbai, India. She worked with ANZ Grindlays Bank and Shipping Company and, for the last five years, with a Jersey City performing arts company. Ms. Nivedita is working towards her Montessori Certificate through the North America Montessori Center (NAMC) Ms. Nivedita begins her fifth year with us as a primary assistant teacher.
Ms. Samira holds a Bachelor’s degree in English and is currently working on her Early Childhood Education Certification (AMS) at the Princeton Center for Teacher Education. She has worked with children from preschool to middle school. Prior to joining Hudson Montessori, Ms. Samira was an instructor and manager at Gymboree and ran her own at-home preschool learning group for children ages 2.5-3.5 years. Ms. Samira will be continuing her internship year for the Early Childhood Training at Hudson Montessori.
Ms. Yuki holds a Bachelor of Education in Sociology from Kyoto Women’s University. She is certified in Japan to teach high school sociology and Kindergarten and has worked as a Kindergarten Teacher in Japan and in a Japanese school in White Plains, NY. Ms. Yuki is currently working on her Early Childhood Education Certification (AMS), completing the classroom portion of the Primary training this summer. She has been volunteering and teaching at Hudson Montessori for four years.
Ms. Yuliya has her Bachelor’s degree from Moscow State Linguistic University in Russia. She is working towards her AMI certification from The Montessori Training Center of Saint Louis, Missouri. Ms. Yuliya previously worked as a teacher at Montessori schools in Brooklyn, New York and Warsaw, Poland, and in the corporate sector in Moscow. She is fluent in English and Russian, and conversational in Polish. Ms. Yuliya has seven years of teaching experience and started with us last school year.
Ms. Danielle B received her BA in Psychology from Ithaca College in 2008. Following graduation she began her career as a Montessori educator. Ms. Danielle is Montessori trained in the primary level and certified in lower elementary. She received a dual bachelor’s in Childhood General and Special Education in 2014. Furthermore, she is pursuing her certification in the upper elementary level.
Ms. Michele A. holds a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from the Tisch School of the Arts, New York University, and holds alternate route certification in New Jersey for grades K-5. Ms. Michele received her Montessori certification (AMS) in Lower Elementary from Princeton Center for Teacher Education. Ms. Michele worked in media companies in London, Los Angeles and New York City. Ms. Michele has over five years of teaching experience and will be a Co-Teacher in our 3rd /4th Grade classrooms.
Ms. Stacey graduated from American University with a BA in Art History and a minor in Fine Arts. She has been teaching for more than 13 years. Her teaching experience has been in both the public and private school settings. She has worked with various ages in traditional education as well as in Montessori. Ms. Stacey was trained at Princeton Center for Teacher Education and is certified in ages 3-11. She is also a field consultant for the PCTE training program. She holds her New Jersey alternate route certification K-6. She recently completed training in the Model United Nations program for children.
Ms. Shannon earned her Associates of Applied Science in Early Childhood Education through a scholarship to Hudson County Community College. She is currently pursuing her Bachelor’s degree at New Jersey City University, double-majoring in Early Childhood Education and Women’s and Gender Studies. Ms. Shannon worked in the Lower Elementary program last year, and through the sponsorship of Hudson Montessori, is attaining her AMS certification for Montessori Lower Elementary at Princeton Montessori’s Teacher Training Center. This coming year she will be co-teaching in a Lower Elementary class.
Ms. Vidya holds a Masters in Modern Language and Literature (English) from India and has worked as a copy editor for four years. During this period, she was working on scientific, technical and medical journals published by Elsevier in both US and UK. She was drawn to Montessori Method of education when her son started his education at a Montessori school in India. Convinced that this method of education can make a positive and lasting change in younger minds, she joined Princeton Center for Teacher Training and is certified at lower elementary level. She is excited to be part of the Hudson Montessori School family.
Mr. Jorge holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and has seven years of teaching experience as Lead Teacher and Co-Teacher. Mr. Jorge has worked with children in many different educational settings and environments. He holds the New Jersey alternate route certification for K-5. Mr. Jorge will start his sixth year with the school. Additionally, he has self-published a children’s book, is working on another. He also pursues creating a variety of artwork using a number of techniques, such as pyography.
Ms. Karen holds a Master’s degree in Zoology from Karnatak University, Dharwad, India. She worked at Thomson Reuters as an Associate Research Analyst and is really passionate about science. Ms. Karen looks forward to bringing her enthusiasm and love for learning to the children of Hudson Montessori School.
Ms. Nicole holds a Master’s of Science Degree in General and Special Education from Touro College and has been working with young children for over 13 years. A successful children’s artist, she has worked with The Art Studio NY building their early childhood and school age curriculum for over four years. She has experience across a wide variety of curriculum and worked in both private and public school settings. Ms. Nicole is also a successful makeup artist and her work has been in magazines both online and print, in addition to working with the most well-known brands currently in existence. Her specialty is working with mixed media and unconventional materials in new ways.
Spanish Teacher – Primary and Elementary
Ms. Lucrecia, has a Bachelors in Translation from her native country Peru.She is working towards her Masters degree in Spanish. She has worked professionally for the Peruvian air force translating Spanish to French and vice versa. She was drawn to work with children and has over 20 years experience teaching Spanish to Toddlers, Elementary, High School students and adults.
Spanish Teacher – Elementary
Ms. Johanna, aside from being an experienced Montessori teacher, has also taught Spanish to children of many ages in New York City and Jersey City for the last eight years. Most recently, Ms. Johanna taught Spanish immersion classes at a foreign language school in Jersey City this summer. She is excited to bring her knowledge of language instruction to the Elementary classrooms.
Ms. Melissa L. works as our part-time librarian
Ms. Tina is a professional musician, passionate about making the world a more positive place through music and the arts. She started taking piano lessons at the age of four, and has been playing and singing ever since. Ms. Tina earned her Bachelor of Music degree in Film Scoring from the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston. Ms. Tina’s musical knowledge is extensive. She is a singer, plays nearly a dozen instruments and also writes music. This is Ms. Tina’s third year with Hudson Montessori.
Music & Movement
Ms. Christine is a skilled multi-instrumentalist who has a unique style and composes her own songs. This singer/songwriter graduated William Paterson with a Music Degree and expresses her passion through her band at performances for multicultural and sporting events. Ms. Christine made her New York City debut singing Soprano at Carnegie Hall and she was also invited to sing for the President of the Philippines at the NYC Consulate. Our children will benefit from and enjoy her skills and knowledge of music, and her genuine love for teaching and sharing music.
Science & Technology
Ms. Michelle V. continues her role as STEAM coordinator for Hudson Montessori School. Her background includes a Master’s Degree in Microbiology and certifications for Primary Montessori Teaching, Computer Programming and Applications, and a Level I Credential for Montessori Applied to Children at Risk for Learning Differences (MACAR). She worked at the National Institute of Oceanography in Goa, India, Sanofi Aventis Pharmaceuticals and was a researcher at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Ms. Michelle begins her sixth year with Hudson Montessori.
Ms. Grace is a certified K-8 education teacher who was employed by the Jersey City District Public Schools for eight years. Prior to joining Hudson Montessori, she was an Educational Technology, Math and Science teacher for middle school students. She holds a Master’s degree in Supervision and Administration in Education. In addition,
she was a Lego Robotics coach for many years and competed with her students in statewide competitions. This is her second year working with our school implementing the STEAM curriculum. Ms. Grace has been working these past summers as a teacher and camp coordinator in our Summer Maker’s Camp.
Tennis (ages 6 and up)
Mr. Jim is a certified PTR (Professional Tennis Registry) Instructor, ICI Certified Coach, and USTA rated 4.5/5.0 player, who has been involved in the tennis world for over 20 years. Educated in a variety of teaching methods both modern and traditional, Mr. Jim brings the experience to provide a singular teaching style that helps students learn and improve as quickly as possible. Mr. Jim has the knowledge and experience to create a lifelong love for tennis in our children.
Mr. Jim, who has an Etcheberry Certification for strength conditioning and movement, and who has been a USPTR (Professional Tennis Registry) instructor since 2003, will be holding PE classes for our Bridge Primary and Primary children. His years of experience, including five as an elementary school teacher, will help our children stay healthy and fit, especially during the winter months when outdoor activities are limited.
Ms. Maki has been with Hudson Montessori since the school started. She worked as an Assistant Teacher in the Toddler and Primary programs before moving to the office to manage the daily operations of our school. Ms. Maki holds a BA in Forensic Psychology from John Jay College of Criminal Justice and worked as an Administrative Assistant in New York City.
Ms. Onaiza is a recent graduate of Rutgers University, where she obtained her Bachelor’’ degree in Public Administration and Psychology. She plans on returning to Graduate School in order to pursue a Master’sdegree in Advance Behavioral Analysis. Ms. Onaiza is fluent in multiple languages including English, Urdu, and Hindi. Being an active member and youth coordinator for her community center has allowed her to attain skills that she can invest in the Hudson Montessori School. With a combination of her educational background, language proficiency and prior experience, Ms. Onaiza is looking forward to continue being a part of the administration team for the second year at Hudson Montessori School.
Ms. Vanessa has a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from New Jersey City University and Master of Science degree in Early Childhood Education from Capella University. She has worked in the education field for over ten years. Ms. Vanessa has five years of experience as a teacher as well as an extensive background in office management in a school environment. She has tremendous passion working with children and is excited to be part of Hudson Montessori School. She started with us this summer.
Mr. Jonathan graduated from the Christ Hospital School of Nursing in Jersey City. As a registered nurse, Mr. Jonathan provides immediate nursing care to all children who are ill, injured or simply in need of attention. He believes in using the science of nursing to promote health and wellness.
Mr. Jorge supervises Early Morning Care.
Ms. Danuta works in the After School Care program at Hudson Montessori, along with Ms. Aneela and at least three other staff members. Ms. Danuta is bi-lingual in English and Polish. She has been working with young children for the last eight years.
