Hudson Montessori School families got together last week to spread love and good cheer around community.
The Elementary Jazz Band kicked off the Holiday Season by serenading seniors at the Lutheran Senior Center. They were accompanied on the Trombone by Mr Oscar, their Jazz teacher.
Last Friday, we partnered with Mommies Heart to Heart to bring 60 Bedtime Boxes to families in need at York Street Project, Hope House and Newark YMCA. The students, decorated boxes and filled them with PJs, bedtime toiletries, favorite bedtime book and stuffed animal. Thanks to the HMS community we also raised close to $200. Thank you Zeppelin Hall Biergarten, Restaurant & Nightspot for donating the venue and The Grind for donating hot beverages.
The Elementary students donated $200 of the money they raised for their MMUN trip towards gift cards for WomenRising.
Our Elementary Chorus delighted their parents and primary friends as they sang Holiday favorites. They also participated in presentations that explained the stories of Kwanzaa, Hanukkah and Christmas.
The seven principles of Kwanzaa
Our Lower Elementary friends helped our parent volunteers Ms Deanna and Ms Dishawn explain the seven core values of Kwanzaa. The core principles are Umoja: Unity, Kujichagulia: Self-Determination, Ujima: Collective Work and Responsibility, Ujamaa: Cooperative Economics, Nia: Purpose, Kuumba: Creativity and Imani : Faith. They finished the presentation with a song.
